Faux Hardwood Floor for under $15

I learned this trick for transforming regular kitchen cabinets into 'redwood' cabinets from Nate Berkus. I started thinking about how I wish I had hardwood upstairs in my office so that my pictures looked a little classier. Nothing about berber carpet screams 'classy'. Then the lightbulb went off. I'd make a floor using Berkus' technique.

What I used:

- 2ft by 4ft plywood board. Home depot had a lot of boards to choose from. Mine cost about $5

- 8 faux redwood tiles, 12" by 12". These are sold individually, are $1 per tile and have a sticky back.
These were the only individual 'wood' sticky back tiles they had but Home depot has a ton of flooring to choose from. Vinyl tiles that look like stone to nice real hardwood looking planks you can piece together. Pricing varies and the nicer the 'wood' the more expensive it gets.

That's all you need.

Once you peel off the paper backing of the tile it's ready to stick to your board. I did 2 rows of 4. There's a small border at the front and to the right of the board because it's not exactly 2ft by 4ft. But it's not noticeable in photos.

Voila. Hardwood floor.

Etsy Spot

I've been spotted!!

Etsyspot.com is a great little accumulation of the best items seen around Etsy.com

This morning the Ninja from Norway featured not one but 2 of my listings.

That's right folks, The Chartreuse Box Purse and the Vintage Thermos Brand Thermos are famous.

Please take a look at Etsyspot.com often as the Ninja posts multiple items every day.

Thanks, Ninja!!!

Ties. Ties. Ties.

Everyone looks a little swankier with one on, this I know. What I did not know is that there are different lengths, widths, ways to tie them and a whole history behind these little accessories.

The best resource for all things ties that I have found is

Just a few articles highlighted are:

• How to Tie a Tie
• Tips and Tricks
• Lengths

And much more. There's even a calculator to help figure out where the tie should end on your body.

After you've picked out the perfect tie from 94 Boutique definitely head over to Tie-a-Tie for much more than just a how-to for ties!!

Big Things Poppin'

I'm proud to announce that 94 Boutique is expanding. Over the next few weeks I will not only be moving merchandise from my store 'House of Ikon' but also adding new treasures to the shop almost everyday.

It was a hard decision to retire House of Ikon. For the past year and a half I've had fun selling everything from hand-made clothes to jewelry to vintage items under that name. I will still keep the store open, under vacation mode, to show past feedback. Possibly at some point I will reopen and brand the lighter necklaces under that moniker but for now...it's 94 Boutique.

I'm working hard on bringing some great variety to the store. In addition to purses look out for vintage housewares, collectibles and menswear! The new sections House // Home, Boudoir // Vanity and ManCave // Garage are just the beginning to the expansion.

Below are just a few of the items being added in the coming weeks...check back often!!
